Microfilm Section is the first step of “processing” files after their initial delivery to the N.H.D Today, the section possesses around 11.500 microfilms.
The procedure consists of the following stages:
– Unpacking of delivered archiving material and records update
– Archives microfilming and reproduction of each copy.
– Microfilm check and correction in order to ensure the highest degree of quality and accuracy, in accordance with current standards.
– Microfilm tagging.
– Microfilm storage in suitable cabinets.
– Packing, sealing and marking of each parcel as “Microfilmed”’ before the final delivery to N.H.D Archives Section.
Additionally, in cooperation with N.H.D Archives Section the following initiatives are taken:
– Records preservation that normally would be classified as “Destructive”
– File shredding of archiving material which normally would be classified as “Preserved”.
All final decisions are taken under H.N.G.S approval
