The Naval History Department (N.H.D) is an independent Naval Service directly under Chief of H.N.G.S command, based in Votanikos Naval Fort. N.H.D is the only service responsible for keeping archives, recording continuously the Hellenic Navy’s activities, composing its history, with a view to preserve the historical memory from Nation’s naval battles. N.H.D collects officially archival material relating to H.N, together with archival material from donations or from any other source. All archives are been restored and classified according to specific regulations.
At the same time the Department receives and retains naval relics and anything that may in the future become a historical proof of existence or action of warships or Naval Services of the Hellenic Navy. From the current archives information and data are provided to any individual or legal person upon request. N.H.D also provides certifications for any legal use, in accordance with H.N.G.S terms and conditions. Finally, inside N.H.D building is located an integrated bindery for performing print jobs of all kinds of books, forms and manuals used in the Hellenic Navy.
